The TIOBE Programming Community Index indicates the level of popularity of a certain programming language. The list is updated every month. The rating is done on the basis of the availability of skilled engineers around the globe, courses and third party purveyors. They use the services of the best search engines in the market, Google, Yahoo and MSN in calculating the ratings. You can use the index as a checklist if your programming skills are updated. Based from the ranking of the programming languages, you can also decide what programming language you should adopt to your software system. In May 2008 ranking, Ruby on Rails is at number 10.
